BECAUSE...
"HOUSE DONE MAN DEAD"

Yeah. This blog is inspired by a dad joke.

Growing up, my dad had a lot of them. But the one he said most came any time he did ANYTHING in the house. I'm pretty sure my siblings and I can't complete a home project of our own now without saying "House Done Man Dead!"

Hi! I'm Kiersten. And this is my husband Zach. After spending way too much quality time together with our kids in our house during the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, we decided it was time to move and bought our "forever home" in Iowa. At least we hope so, because we bought it for the extra space and the back yard.

But the house itself? Not our style. Don't get me wrong, it's got some quality bones, but it is rocking the year 2000 in all its glory... pretty much every surface, appliance, you name it. Original. And orange. So much orange. And yellow. From the walls to the trim, the home really just caved in on itself. We looked past the style and saw the potential, and put an offer in the day it went on the market.

Here's the problem. It took us 10 years to make our last house perfectly us. But this time, I'm feeling impatient. Probably because nearly everything we brought with us doesn't match the home.

Since we're hoping this really is our forever home, we want to do things right. But we don't want to spend all our savings because... well, the backyard is getting that with our big dream of putting in a pool. So we're updating this house one project at a time, whether through a quick temporary fix or a permanent change just the way we want it.

Plus, with Zach's history working in landscaping, we'll be sharing plenty of lawn and garden advice and project inspiration for things you can do yourself.

Follow along as we forever fix up our forever home.
